For better or for worse, the Miami Dolphins are still somehow in contention to make it to the NFL playoffs. Yes, they are a long shot to make it, but they still have a chance, especially after beating the New York Jets. The AFC playoff picture is still quite volatile, but the team is still in play and must get some wins, as well as hope everyone else ranked above them loses.
Miami now has a four-game winning streak, surprising many, but they only have a 1,8% chance to make it. To get to that goal, they will need a perfect record against AFC teams moving forward, as well as hope that multiple teams end the season with 9-8 records, triggering tie-breaker scenarios.
There are only five weeks to go, and standing ahead of them and a possible spot in the playoffs are the Houston Texans, Baltimore Ravens, Pittsburgh Steelers and the Kansas City Chiefs. In order to overtake these teams, Miami must win all of its next few games to maximize its chances, but this would not be an easy task.
With only four games left, the Dolphins have three tough teams that they have to beat, with the next one being the Pittsburgh Steelers, which has found itself surging after Week 14.
After that will be against the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that the Dolphins could beat theoretically, and after that, the hobbled Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which may be a tough matchup. They end the season against the New England Patriots, which might be their toughest opponent in this final stretch. To make it to the playoffs, the Dolphins must hope to win each of these matchups, as well as hope that the other AFC teams will lose.
As for why the Dolphins should avoid losing to AFC teams? The answer is the tie-breaker, as having fewer losses to other AFC teams could propel the Dolphins to the playoffs.
Miami Dolphins Have Not Won In The Playoffs In 24 Years
The Miami Dolphins used to have a Super Bowl dynasty, but these days, that is just a distant memory as they have not made it back to the playoffs in five years. They did make it to the big dance in 2022 under Mike McDaniel, but they got eliminated by the Kansas City Chiefs.
They have another shot at returning to playoff glory, and even though they are a long shot, they still have a chance. Winning in the first round, however, and ending that drought, is a different story.
