NFC Playoff Picture Week 17: Can Atlanta Falcons Still Make Postseason?

The Atlanta Falcons enter Monday Night Football’s home game against the Los Angeles Rams with some momentum, riding a two-game win streak. Atlanta has defeated the Arizona Cardinals and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the last two weeks and will look to end the season strong by looking to win its final two games.

The Rams come into Monday night’s game looking to bounce back from its wild 38-37 overtime loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Week 16. Following that loss and both the San Francisco 49ers and Seahawks winning yesterday, the Rams won’t have a chance at clinching the No. 1 seed, but will be guaranteed either the fifth or sixth seed.

As for the Falcons, they are not in a situation like the Rams heading into tonight’s game.

Can The Atlanta Falcons Still Make The Postseason With a Win Tonight?

Unfortunately for the Atlanta Falcons, they’ll be playing tonight to spoil Los Angeles’ chance at earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC while gaining some momentum heading into the offseason.

Even if the Falcons were to upset the Rams tonight, it wouldn’t help their playoff chances as they were eliminated from playoff contention three weeks ago on Dec. 7, falling to 4-9 on the season with a 37-9 loss to the Seattle Seahawks. The NFC has been highly competitive this season, which led to Atlanta bein eliminated early, like other struggling teams.

    Current NFC Playoff Picture

Six out of the seven NFC playoff spots have been clinched with just the winner of the NFC South division up for grabs.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Seahawks hold the No. 1 seed with the Chicago Bears holding the No. 2 seed. The Philadelphia Eagles hold the No. 3 seed, and the No. 4 seed is up for grabs and will be the winner of Saturday’s Buccaneers-Panthers game.

The three teams that hold the three wildcard spots in order from seeds 5-7 are the San Francisco 49ers, Rams, and Green Bay Packers.

A win for the Rams would increase its chances at earning the No. 5 seed.
