Is Cam Ward confident or too confident? It’s not uncommon for quarterbacks to be highly confident individuals. Quite the contrary, it’s almost a prerequisite to be a successful signal-caller in the NFL. What’s uncommon is for the quarterback of a 1-5 team to be boisterous about his own playing abilities.

However, this is exactly what Cam Ward has decided to do. The quarterback of the struggling 1-5 Tennessee Titans said the following to The Athletic in a recent interview:
“I’m not playing how I want to play right now,” he said. “So, once I play how I want to play, I think the league will be f—ed.”
These are big words for the quarterback of a team that has only won one game all season long, and mainly due to an egregious mistake by the rival (Emari Demercado’s dropped TD in the fourth quarter, a la Russ Holiday from Hulu’s Chad Powers). Even more so when said team just had its head coach dismissed. Yet one could argue the situation is not Ward’s making, and he has had to navigate an almost impossible context, which is why Brian Callahan was fired.
What Rivals Think of Cam Ward and The Tennessee Titans
Regardless of what Cam Ward thinks of his own abilities, and despite his status as the first overall pick of this year’s NFL Draft, it’s clear that some in the league don’t think much of him and the Titans. An anonymous coach from the Las Vegas Raiders said the following about the team following a win over Tennessee last week:
“That might be the worst team I’ve seen in the last 25 years,” one Raiders coach said of the Titans after Sunday’s game. “They don’t have any difference-makers other than (defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons), and the whole thing was a total mess.”

Indeed, Cam Ward cannot be considered a standout yet, with him having recorded 1101 yards (22nd in the NFL) and three touchdown passes (33rd). His QBR is an extremely low 24.9 (33rd). Ward also has four interceptions, which is near the bottom of the league.
