Is Cam Skattebo Out for the Season? Inside Giants RB’s Ankle Injury and Recovery Timeline

The New York Giants were on a roll, and it was all thanks to their combo of Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. With the duo, the franchise’s future looked good, but that was until Week 8 during a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles when the rookie running back got injured. The question now is, is his season already done?

He is not expected to play on Week 9, but he has had a monstrous rookie season so far, with 410 rushing yards on 101 attempts. He has also tallied 24 receiving yards and had a total of five touchdowns already, showing that he has a bright future ahead of him, with this hitting a major road block thanks to the injury.

    What Happened to Cam Skattebo?

During that Week 8 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, rookie quarterback threw a bass at Scattebo, who was in the middle of the field. This was when Eagles linebacker Zack Baun hit him hard with a tackle as he tried to catch the ball.

This led to Skattebo landing awkwardly in his right leg, which got punned under him as he got tackled. His right leg reportedly got twisted in the wrong direction and he received medical attention immediately on the field.

With that, it is safe to say that he suffered a major leg injury, a dislocated right ankle, which he received some surgery immediately. This means that Cam Skattebo’s phenomenal rookie season is now officially over, as he would likely not be playing in the remaining games of the season as he needs to recover from surgery.

    Cam Skattebo Expected Recovery Timeline

So far, the New York Giants have not yet released an official timeline for his return, but a dislocated ankle is a serious injury, so he is likely to be on the shelf for a long time, which should be around after the season ends.

Once recovered from surgery, Skattebo will still need to get some more rest and then some rehabilitation on his surgically repaired ankle, along with some physical therapy. An optimistic outlook on when he will actually return should be ahead of next season.

The running back is expected to be back by next year’s 2026 offseason training program, but it should be noted that this is the optimistic outlook at his return. However, he should be able to play next season already.
