Bucky Irving Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Buccaneers RB Ahead of Week 8

Tampa Bay Buccaneers running back Bucky Irving quickly emerged as one of the league’s best running backs last year as a rookie. Drafted in the fourth-round of the draft, not many were aware of the potential that he had in his first season in the NFL.

Last year, he ran for 1,122 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry and rushing for eight touchdowns. Additionally, he added 47 receptions for 392 yards. Irving became the first Bucs’ rookie running back since Doug Martin in 2012 to rush for 1,000 yards in his rookie season.

    What Happened to Bucky Irving?

With Bucky Irving primed to pick up where he left off from last season, he suffered a Week 4 injury that has kept him sidelined since. In the Buccaneers’ team loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4, Irving left the game as he suffered foot and shoulder injuries.

According to reports, Irving’s shoulder injury is more of a concern than his foot injury.

When Will Bucky Irving Be Back?

Irving did not practice at all last week leading up the Buccaneers’ Week 7 game against the Detroit Lions. The Buccaneers face the New Orleans Saints on the road this week in Week 8, and Irving’s status is currently unknown.

The Buccaneers didn’t place Irving on injured reserve, and have a bye the following week. Since they didn’t place Irving on IR, he could possibly return this week, unless the team decides last minute that they want him to get a few more weeks of rest.

    Bucky Irving Fantasy Outlook

Prior to his injury, Bucky Irving led the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in rushing with 237 yards. His yards per carry has dropped significantly from last year, as he’s averaging just 3.3 yards per carries. He also has yet to score a rushing touchdown.

Irving however, has become more productive in the pass game. He has 19 receptions for 193 yards and two receiving touchdowns.

Seeing that he had 90 total touches, 430 total yards, and two touchdowns prior to his injury, it’s safe to say Irving will be a good start for when he returns back to the field.
