The day had already been challenging for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Philadelphia Eagles, but it took a turn for the worse when star running back Bucky Irving took a vicious hit. The tackle happened late in the first half as Irving was trying to convert 3rd down for a struggling Tampa Bay offense.
Calais Campbell’s tackle was intense, stopping Irving for a loss and causing him some apparent discomfort. He was slow to get back to his feet and was visibly in pain a few seconds later, holding his sides.
The timing could not have been worse for Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers were already having to deal with multiple injuries across their roster. Losing Irving would be another major setback to their offense, as the rookie has been a crucial part of their game plan in the first half of the season so far.

Medical staff immediately attended to Irving’s injury. There was some encouragement when he was moving and trying to warm-up again, but it was still unclear if there was any lasting impact.
Bucky Irving’s Strong Start to the Season for the Buccaneers
The possible absence of Bucky Irving would be especially damaging considering how well he has started the season. After three games, the young running back has established himself as a dependable player for the Buccaneers’ rushing attack. His 56 rush attempts rank him fifth in the NFL.
Although his 3.1 average yards per rush won’t set the world on fire, his consistency and durability have been important for the Buccaneers. He has a solid total of 174 rushing yards in three games.

Even more impressive has been Irving’s contribution in the passing game. He has a perfect completion percentage with 14 targets, along with 91 receiving yards and one touchdown reception, which shows his reliable hands and the coaches will to use him.
