The Carolina Panthers are currently the No. 4 seed in the NFC, but they are also in danger of losing that seed to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. For Week 18, their opponent will be the Bucs, so the big question right now is, will QB1 Bryce Young play? The quarterback had admittedly been playing through pain last December, leaving many to worry that he may be hurt and actually miss important games due to injury.
With such an important game with playoff implications happening, will Bryce Young play against the Bucs? Well, he is expected to be playing, as he has been cleared to play since December and has not been injured since.
Now, a loss to the Bucs will not guarantee that the Panthers would miss the playoffs, but a loss could get them closer to elimination. This just means that Young should step up to lead Carolina to beat the Bucs and guarantee their playoff spot and their No. 4 seed.
Young has already thrown for 2,745 passing yards that led to 21 touchdowns with a 63.2% completion rate. This is despite him dealing with an ankle injury throughout the season, which made him miss one game. He has been dealing with a high ankle sprain since getting injured in Week 2.
Carolina Panthers Head Coach Dave Canales Talks About Bryce Young Getting Hurt During A Play
Bryce Young had been recovering steadily since Dec. 23, which was after that game against the Atlanta Falcons where he played through the pain of a high ankle sprain. Head coach Dave Canales talked about the quarterback seemingly re-injuring his ankle during a play against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
“Just the timing of it (was off),” he said. “We were a little tight there. You can’t drop step when you’re on the offensive line in those situations. You got to be firm at the line of scrimmage. And then Bryce just coming away from center on some of the play-actions, you can get a little bit more depth on the first step.”
This happened before Christmas, on Dec. 21, when the Panthers beat the Bucs 23-20. Another win against Tampa would guarantee their playoff spot, but them losing again might mean that Carolina would be in serious trouble.
