Bryce Young Injury: All We Know About Panthers QB’s Availability in Week 8 Following MRI Results After Jets Win

Andy Dalton might be about to become a starter again in the NFL, at least for a couple of weeks, as the Carolina Panthers starter, Bryce Young, suffered an ankle injury during Sunday’s victory over the New York Jets. During the third quarter of the 13-6 victory, Young was forced to leave the game after a sacked that forced Carolina to punt the ball in third down.

Now an MRI has revealed that Bryce Young suffered a high ankle sprain, which makes him doubtful next week against the Buffalo Bills. The news was shared by Tom Pelissero from the NFL Network, who wrote the following on X:

“#Panthers QB Bryce Young suffered a high ankle sprain on Sunday, an MRI revealed, and he is expected to miss this week’s game against the #Bills, per sources. Andy Dalton is now in line to start against Buffalo, and quite possibly beyond.”

Dalton has been the Panthers backup quarterback for the last two seasons, with his last full season in the NFL being in 2022 when he started for the New Orleans Saints. That year he led them to a 6-8 overall record. Long gone are the days of him being one of the top quarterbacks in the league when he played for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Andy Dalton’s Numbers With The Carolina Panthers in 2024

In his 14th season in the NFL, Andy Dalton played in six games for the Carolina Panthers, starting in five of them, throwing for 989 yards, with a whopping six interceptions. He was also sacked seven times and had a completion percentage of 66.3%.

Over that period, he led the Panthers to a 1-4 record during Bryce Young’s abcense last year. Young was initially benched for the veteran Dalton, but eventually recovered the starting position. Not an auspicious fact to his stint as a starter in 2025.
