Browns Insider Makes Bold Case for Kevin Stefanski’s Job Security Amid Backlash Over Shedeur Sanders Situation

During a conversation with Ken Carman and Anthony Lima on the “92.3 The Fan Cleveland” show, the Cleveland Browns’ beat writer and insider, Mary Kay Cabot, went on record to give insights about head coach Kevin Stefanski and General Manager Andrew Berry’s job security ahead of the next season.

Mary started by saying how Stefanski deserves a chance to coach the Browns when the team has a consistently performing quarterback who can win them games. She also opined that Stefanski hasn’t yet had a quarterback who fits that bill with the Cleveland-based team.

“I’m on record as saying that I do think that Kevin deserves a chance to coach this football team when he has a quarterback that he can win consistently with,” Cabot said on the show (0:03).

“I don’t know that he’s really had that yet here for any length of time,” he elaborated (0:13).

Cabot added that Stefanski, with the right quarterback, is going to be successful at the Browns and will not have to move to a different team.

Speculation around Kevin Stefanski’s job security as the Cleveland Browns head coach comes on the backdrop of his tactics regarding Shedeur Sanders.

Cabot also shed light on the Browns’ general manager, Andrew Berry’s, job security, saying that he’s done a good job in the drafts, calling it one of the best rookie classes, further emphasizing that Berry isn’t going anywhere.

The Browns have an abysmal 3-11 overall record this season.

Stefanski’s Takes Responsibility After Shedeur Mishap In Week 14

During the Browns’ Week 14 game against the Titans, Stefanski took the ball out of Sanders’ hands in short-yardage and two-point situations, using Wildcat tactics with rookie RB Quinshon Judkins instead. The game eventually ended with a scoreline of 29-31 in favor of the Titans, with Kevin Stefanski taking full responsibility for the loss amid criticism.

“I make every call. … I’m responsible for all of it,” Stefanski stated.

Across his first five games with the Browns in the 2025 campaign, Sanders has 72 completions on 138 attempts for 946 passing yards. The rookie quarterback has also garnered five passing touchdowns and six interceptions, averaging 6.9 yards per attempt.
