Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers is dealing with a lingering knee issue and his latest setback makes his return timelines uncertain. Before their Week 5 game against the Indianapolis Colts, Bowers has not participated in practice sessions conducted on Thursday and Friday. He was limited in practice earlier this week, making this recent development concerning.
However, coach Pete Carroll has called this absence a rest rather than any kind of setback in regards to his knee issue.
“We just want to make sure and slow it down a little bit and give him some extra rest. That’s really what we try to do,” Carroll said.
Carroll even said Bowers could play against the Colts but despite that optimism, the tight end has been declared inactive for the game. This suggests that the All-Pro is not in his full strength and he indicated so before the game.
“It’s painful, sore, just annoying [and] frustrating because I want to be back to full strength and going full speed, being able to separate from guys,” Bowers said. “I feel like I can’t really do that to the best of my abilities right now.”
What Happened To Brock Bowers?
After catching five passes for 103 yards, Brock Bowers injured his knee in Week 1 game against the New England Patriots. Initially it was reported as a “little hit to the knee” and the tight end played the subsequent games with a knee brace. However, his production wasn’t the same. He has yet to catch for more than 50 yards despite receiving five receptions almost every game since.
A report from well-known sports medicine physician and Injury Expertz CEO Jesse Morse suggested why Bowers was inactive for the Week 5 matchup against the Colts.
“Back to back DNPs. My guess is that Brock Bowers suffered a setback, a reinjury, in his left knee. He has been dealing with a PCL sprain,” Morse wrote on X. “I expect him to be OUT Week 5. Depending on how his knee does, there’s a chance they could hold him out for 2 more games and allow him to rest through their Week 8 bye.”

It remains to be seen whether Bowers returns next week assuming the injury has not been aggravated.
