Brian Thomas Jr. Injury Update: What Fantasy Owners Need to Know About Jaguars WR Status Ahead of Week 10

After putting on a historic Jaguars rookie wide receiver season last year, it’s been a struggle for Brian Thomas Jr. this season.

Whether it’s dealing with dropped ball issues, minor injuries, and just underperforming, it hasn’t been the season that Jaguars had imagined Thomas Jr. would have. He set Jaguars rookie records for most receptions (87), receiving yards (1,282), and receiving touchdowns (12.) But so far this season, Thomas Jr. has taken a dip in production, due to multiple factors.

What Happened to Brian Thomas Jr.?

Midway through Sunday’s fourth quarter against the Las Vegas Raiders, Brian Thomas Jr. was seen down on the ground, holding his ankle. He left the game and shortly returned, but did not play in the Jaguars final offensive possession in the fourth quarter nor overtime. The injury is viewed as a high ankle sprain.

Will Brian Thomas Jr. Play This Week?

Brian Thomas Jr. popped up on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ injury report this week, as he did not practice on Wednesday. The news for the Jaguars didn’t get any better a day later, as he was sidelined for the team’s Thursday practice.

Thomas’ status over tomorrow should give more of an indication of whether it is likely or not that he plays this Sunday against the Houston Texans.

    Brian Thomas Jr. Fantasy Outlook

It’s been a weird season for Brian Thomas Jr. this year. Last season, he put on a sensational rookie season, recording 87 receptions for 1,282 yards, and 10 receiving touchdowns.

Through eight games this season, Thomas Jr. has 30 receptions for 420 yards and just one touchdown. He has yet to record a 100-yard receiving game or 10+ catches in a game this season. Still, he is the No. 1 wide receiver on the Jaguars, even when Travis Hunter comes back, and still could be used in a flex option in fantasy.

Fantasy Replacements if Brian Thomas Jr. Misses Week 10

If Brian Thomas Jr. is inactive this Sunday, then newly-acquired wide receiver Jakobi Meyers should become an instant start, as he will likely be Trevor Lawrence‘s No. 1 target on Sunday.

Another solid replacement could the other Jaguars WR, Parker Washington, who could be the most productive healthy Jaguars game come Sunday. Darnell Mooney, Rashod Bateman, and Calvin Austin are solid options on the waiver wire.
