Are The Bills Resting Their Starters In Week 18? A Closer Look At Sean McDermott’s Options

Despite losing out on the AFC East title after succumbing to the Eagles in week 17, the Buffalo Bills head into week 18 of the 2025 season of the NFL with a wildcard playoff spot.

The Bills will conclude their regular season campaign when they face off against the New York Jets at Highmark Stadium, with their final playoff seeding spot contingent on the result of this encounter.

Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott has confirmed that a total of three players will be unavailable for Sunday’s Week 18 matchup against the New York Jets. Linebacker Terrel Bernard is sidelined with a calf injury, as is defensive tackle DaQuan Jones, while safety Jordan Poyer will miss the game due to a hamstring issue.

Quarterback Josh Allen, after not partaking in practice earlier this week, is expected to play against the Jets, with head coach Sean McDermott giving a positive update on the QB’s availability as Allen navigates his recovery after sustaining a foot injury.

“He’ll be good to go for the game, and we’ll take it one day at a time”, McDermott stated.

McDermott also provided updates on two other key contributors, with defensive end Joey Bosa and tight end Dalton Kincaid both listed as questionable for Sunday, on the backdrop of dealing with hamstring and knee injuries, respectively.

Bills Aim For Higher Playoff Seeding In Week 18 Finale Against Jets

After having claimed a wild card playoff berth, the Buffalo Bills head into the final regular season week vying for a strong finish, which will ultimately help them finish higher as far as the playoff seeding is concerned.

Amongst all the wild card teams, the Bills are currently in the seventh spot and will continue to do so if they lose against the Jets this Sunday, meaning they will face the no. 2 side in the conference. However, if the Bills do emerge victorious against the New York-based franchise, they will either finish as the fifth or sixth seed, which will open up multiple scenarios that hinge on other results.

Depending on the final outcome of their game against the Jets, the Bills could potentially draw a Wild Card matchup against the Broncos, Patriots, Jaguars, Steelers, or Ravens.
