The Chicago Bears have defied the odds and are in the NFL playoffs despite a 0-2 start to their season. Head coach Ben Johnson has turned around a struggling program and enters Week 18 with a shot at securing the No. 2 seed in the conference.
While many teams rest their starters for the final game of the regular season, the Bears have a lot to play for and will not do so. While speaking with reporters, Johnson reiterated that his starters will play in Week 18.
“We’re constantly improving; that’s the goal at least,” Johnson told reporters. “We want to continue to get better. We’ve got a lot of young players where each week you do see growth. We’re going to stay true to our process throughout this thing. This is the next one.”
He added that the Bears will be “playing to win this week” during a virtual press conference on Monday as they could drop to the No. 3 seed should they lose. He admitted that the 42-38 shootout loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week stung.
“Certainly, coming off a loss like that too [in San Francisco], you don’t want to go into the postseason with two losses in a row,” Johnson said. “You want to have a little momentum behind you to get going. That’s part of the thought process.”
What Would Happen If The Chicago Bears Lose To The Detroit Lions?
As for the Bears’ playoff scenario, a win would cement them as the No. 2 seed in the NFC, but what happens if they lose? If they lose, they could still secure the No. 2 seed if the Philadelphia Eagles lose to one of the worst teams in the NFL, the Washington Commanders, at home.
