Baker Mayfield Shares Candid Thoughts On His Son’s Future

Baker has repeatedly acknowledged the challenges of balancing football and fatherhood, whilst also expressing immense joy in parenting. He credits Emily for being a crucial part of his life, especially throughout the ups and downs of his football career.

The couple, who met in 2017 and married in 2019, are expecting their second child, a boy due in April 2026.

Mayfield, whilst speaking about his yet-to-be-born son’s prospective future career choices, stated that he will be welcoming of any path his son desires to choose. He also spoke about his future life being a boy dad.

“We did just a little private reveal. Just the fam. But yeah, obviously fun. Everybody is like, ‘Are you going to let him play football?’ Do whatever you want”, Mayfield stated.

“My parents didn’t want me to play football at a certain point, when your kid wants to do something you encourage him to do whatever he wants to do … I’m going to have a little sh*thead on my hands,” he further elaborated.

Baker Mayfield is currently nursing an injury, as the Buccaneers’ starting quarterback sustained a low-grade AC joint sprain in his left shoulder on November 23. While the MRI showed no damage, his practice status is being closely monitored ahead of their critical Week 13 matchup against the Cardinals.

In the 2025 season so far, he has thrown for 2,406 yards with 18 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.
