As the Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue their playoff push, the team is awaiting word on whether starting quarterback Baker Mayfield will continue playing hurt with a shoulder injury. The team has been stricken by injuries all year, but has remained a contender to make the playoffs, and losing its quarterback could be a big blow.
Mayfield was instrumental in the Bucs’ 20-17 win over the Arizona Cardinals on Monday, despite dealing with an injured shoulder. The week before, he did not practice on Wednesday, but did train on Thursday and Friday.
The Buccaneers will take on the New Orleans Saints in Week 14 at home, but will Mayfield be healthy enough to play?
Baker Mayfield Injury Update
Mayfield has been suffering from an AC joint sprain on his non-throwing shoulder, but it was deemed low-grade, and he was still able to play last week. Mayfield was back on the field for team practice on Wednesday, and he was even able to get two of his favorite targets back from injury: Mike Evans and Jalen McMillan.
Is Baker Mayfield Playing This Week?
He fully practiced on Wednesday, which means he’ll play against the struggling New Orleans Saints barring a setback, especially since the Buccaneers need him in top condition as they continue to push for the playoffs.
Baker Mayfield Fantasy Outlook
Fantasy managers should not be worried about the quarterback not being able to put in the numbers this week. There is still a possibility that he may be playing hurt this week, but as that win over the Arizona Cardinals has shown, an injured shoulder has done little to slow him down.
Mayfield completed 18 of 28 passes for 194 yards and a touchdown against Arizona. He also had six carries for 27 yards. He is the QB12 in fantasy, averaging 16.53 points per game.
He racked up just 4.08 fantasy points against the Saints in Week 8, but is due for a bounce-back.

Baker Mayfield may be nearing full fitness, but Matthew Stafford has been having an MVP-caliber season right now and will be leading the Los Angeles Rams to the playoffs. Stafford is the safer bet for Week 14.
