‘Could This Guy Be Any More Cringeworthy?’: Bad Bunny Sparks Fan Backlash With SNL Message Ahead of 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show

In September, the NFL announced that Bad Bunny would headline the 2026 Super Bowl Halftime Show. The news broke the internet for various reasons. Bad Bunny is one of the biggest artists of the modern era, so understandably, there was a lot of excitement.

However, there was also a huge uproar among fans who failed to understand why he was handed the gig. The reason behind that doubt was that most of his songs are in Spanish, and the Super Bowl audience, especially those in attendance, are English-speaking Americans.

Over the last few days, a lot has been said against the forthcoming Halftime Show. Recently, Bad Bunny hosted SNL, and during his monologue, he addressed all the noise around his name.

“If you didn’t understand what I just said, you have 4 months to learn,” he said on SNL.

The comment was deemed ignorant and “cringeworthy” by many. It has since led to a massive backlash on social media with fans calling out the rapper.

“Good lord. Could this guy be any more cringeworthy?” A fan wrote.

“Even knowing Spanish…You can’t understand what the f*ck this guy is saying,” a fan wrote.

“I speak Spanish as my native language,  and still don’t understand a word he says…” a fan wrote.

“We have jobs and lives, I am not dedicating 4 months to learn songs that I’ll hear for 30 minutes,” a fan wrote.

“He’s got 4 months to learn how to sing in English,” a fan wrote.

“Nah, I’ll just take a prolonged bathroom break with tv off,” a fan wrote.

Many believe that the NFL decided to give Bad Bunny the biggest platform in American sports in an attempt to boost their international presence. The league has been trying to expand beyond the American audience for a while.

Having Bad Bunny on the stage might attract new fans to the sport who are unaware of what the NFL is or how football is played in America.

Jason Whitlock Called Out the NFL for Giving the Super Bowl Gig to Bad Bunny

On an episode of Fearless with Jason Whitlock, the media veteran went off on the NFL, calling them out for their political agenda. He claimed that the NFL is trying to present an anti-ICE stance and they’re using their platform to peddle that agenda.

“This is their rally, their pro-open-borders, pro-globalism rally that they’re having with the Super Bowl,” Whitlock said. “This is their response to MAGA and Trump and Charlie Kirk and a Christian revival and America First agenda.” (3:56)

Whitlock said that the NFL knows it has a strong hold on the popular culture and they can use the Super Bowl Halftime Show to sell the same mindset to millions of people at the same time.

It’ll be wrong to read too much into it. At the end of the day, Bad Bunny is one of the biggest artists in the world, and the Super Bowl stage is usually handed to the biggest artists.
