AFC Playoff Picture: What Could Broncos Loss vs Kansas City Mean For Patriots, Jaguars?

Today’s Christmas Day football triple-header will conclude with the Kansas City Chiefs hosting the Denver Broncos at 8:15 p.m. ET. The Chiefs, at 6-9, have already been eliminated from the playoffs while Denver holds the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 12-3 record.

While Kansas City will play for momentum heading into the offseason, Denver will be playing to hold on to the No. 1 seed in the conference. A win would increase Denver’s chance, and they would be able to clinch the No. 1 seed this week with a win and loss/tie by the Chargers, Jaguars, Bills, as well as a loss from the New England Patriots.

However, a loss tonight would certainly hurt Denver’s chances to clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference. The New England Patriots, holding a 12-3 record, could clinch the No. 1 seed in the conference if they were to win out and if Denver loses one of its last two games.

Jacksonville, holding the third seed with an 11-4 record could clinch the No. 1 seed by winning both of its final two games and having Denver and New England each lose one of its finals two games.

Luckily, the Broncos will be facing a Chiefs team that will have a third-string quarterback starting today.

Who Is Kansas City Chiefs’ Starting QB Today?

With Kansas City Chiefs quarterbacks Patrick Mahomes and Gardner Minshew each suffering torn ACL injuries in back-to-back weeks the last two weeks, third-string quarterback Chris Oladokun will get the first start of his NFL career tonight against the Denver Broncos.

Oladokun started his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers as he was a 2022 seventh-round pick. He was signed to the Chiefs’ practice squad that same summer and has been with the team since. He completed 11 of 16 passes for 111 yards against the Tennessee Titans last week.
