Colorado Buffaloes two-way star and 2024 Heisman winner Travis Hunter has drawn considerable attention during his college tenure and the 2025 NFL Draft process. Still, he isn’t the only two-way player in the draft class.
Football analysts, like Youtuber TylerTSports, are paying attention to Ole Miss TE/DL J.J. Pegues, who seems to be flying under the radar.

J.J. Pegues Emerges As Lesser-Known Two-Way Prospect
NFL YouTuber TylerTSports has been singing Ole Miss TE/DL prospect J.J. Pegues’ praises in his recent coverage and analysis of the 2025 NFL Draft class.
He elaborated on Pegues’ college career in a recent video.
“Did you know that Travis Hunter is not the only two-way player in this year’s draft class? Well, let me introduce you to my friend J.J. Pegues from Ole Miss.”
His path has been one of the most colorful in recent history as Pegues has played defensive lineman, tight end, and fullback.
In high school, Pegues was a star in his hometown of Oxford, Mississippi. A 270-pound tight end who played multiple positions, he received four-star ratings due to his size and agility, according to NFL Draft Buzz.
The Auburn Tigers recruited Pegues as a tight end. He played his first season there, catching seven passes for 57 yards and five touches for 14 yards. He converted to defensive tackle for the 2021 season and transferred to Old Miss in 2022.
Pegues’s stats include 126 tackles, five pass deflections, and 10 sacks as a lineman. He set an SEC record for touchdowns by a defensive lineman in 2024, and as TylerTSports told us, “He had 100 rushing yards and seven rushing touchdowns, and as a tight end, he had eight receptions for 58 yards and one touchdown.”
His final season with the Rebels saw him help the team secure a Gator Bowl victory over Duke. He also spent time outside of football working in the community on the SEC Community Service Team, which many NFL teams will take an interest in.
NFL Draft Buzz Reveals Pegues’ Best Traits
Per NFL Draft Buzz’s scouting report on the Ole Miss Rebels star, Pegues is “a powerful interior defender with rare athletic traits…His movement skills and explosiveness immediately stand out on film, particularly in his ability to fire off the ball and penetrate the backfield.”

Following the bowl victory, Pegues had a strong outing at the NFL Scouting Combine. He worked out with three field position groups, including defensive linemen, tight ends, and running backs. His 5.16 40-yard dash time measured well against his 325 pound-frame. He also got the opportunity to run routes and catch passes.
