Through the first 5 weeks of the 2025 NFL season, there have been some surprise teams and some teams that have been living up to their standard of being top teams in the NFL. Some teams at the bottom have remained there, but even through five weeks of football, there have been many surprises.
Here’s a look at the best and worst teams in the NFL in a mini-rundown:

The Best
- Detroit Lions (4-1)
Since its Week 1 loss to division foe Green Bay Packers, the Detroit Lions have been on a tear. They’ve won four straight games and have scored 34+ points in each game, showing they still have one of the best offenses in the NFL.
2. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (4-1)
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue to close out and win close games. All four of their wins have come in the last minute of games this season. Winning out close games and executing is great, but the Buccaneers have been battle-tested by teams such as the Houston Texans, New York Jets, and Atlanta Falcons.
3. Buffalo Bills (4-1)
The Buffalo Bills were handed their first loss of the season last night to the New England Patriots. The Bills’ offense didn’t look as dominant as it always does, and the defense didn’t make the key plays late in the game to stop the Pats. Still, the Bills are a top-three team despite a divisional loss.
4. Green Bay Packers (2-1-1)
The Green Bay Packers had a bye in Week 5, so they’re spot hasn’t changed much. The Packers looked great in its first games of the season, including wins over the Detroit Lions and Washington Commanders. In Week 6, they’ll look to get back in the win column after suffering an upset loss to the Cleveland Browns and tying the Dallas Cowboys last week.
5. Philadelphia Eagles (4-1)
Another team suffered its first loss of the season yesterday. The Denver Broncos handed the Eagles a close 21-17 loss. Even in the Eagles’ four wins, they haven’t looked very impressive, earning all four wins by one score. The defending Super Bowl champs are still one of the best overall teams in the league, though.
The Worst
28. Tennessee Titans (1-4)
The Tennessee Titans were ranked No. 32 or 31 in many NFL polls last week, but have earned the right to move up a few spots this week. Not only did the Titans and rookie quarterback Cam Ward pick up their first win of the season, they did so by completing an improbable comeback, coming back after trailing AZ 21-6 in the fourth quarter.
29. New Orleans Saints (1-4)
Like the Tennessee Titans, the New Orleans Saints picked up their first win of the season yesterday and moved up a few spots. They defeated the struggling New York Giants in a 26-14 win, picking up career win No. 1 for quarterback Spencer Rattler. The Saints still remain at the bottom, suffering two double-digit losses in the two weeks prior.
30 Cleveland Browns (1-4)
Cleveland had a chance to pick up its second win of the season yesterday, taking a late 17-14 lead over the Minnesota Vikings in the fourth quarter, but gave up a last-minute touchdown, falling 21-17. Rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was solid for the Browns, but they’re still at the bottom of the league, amid their 1-4 record.
31. Miami Dolphins (1-4)
The Miami Dolphins took a step back this week after picking up their first win of the season last week against the New York Jets. The Dolphins blew a 27-21 game to the Carolina Panthers yesterday, who are also a bottom-10 team in the league. Luckily for Miami, they have a few winnable games coming up.
32. New York Jets (0-5)
Nothing has been going the New York Jets’ way this season.
After suffering a 37-22 loss to the Dallas Cowboys yesterday, they are the lone 0-5 team in the NFL. The Jets have been historically bad, becoming the first team in NFL history to be 0-5 without a takeaway on defense.
