The 2025 NFL Draft week wasn’t the easiest for the Sanders fam. While, Shedeur Sanders had to wait five rounds to hear his name get called and get picked by the Cleveland Browns as the 144th overall pick, his elder brother Shilo Sanders went undrafted.
After the draft, Shilo signed as an undrafted free agent with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and went on to show a lot of hard work on the field during the rookie mini camp and training camp.
Shilo Sanders then got the chance to make a place in the Bucs’ 53-man roster as he was picked to play in all three preseason matchups.
While Shilo made his presence felt in the first preseason matchup against the Tennessee Titans, the next two didn’t go too well for the ex-Colorado star, which led to him being waived off from the team.
In their recent “heartfelt message” video for Shilo Sanders, former NFL star Chad Johnson expressed confidence in him to sign with a team, naming Saints and Steelers as potential landing spots. He said:
“You know what? I’m not sure where we land. There’s some teams out there that could use some depth, especially at the safety position. I’m not sure what the Bengals look like in the secondary. I think Steelers can can add the Saints can add to to their to their secondary as well. he’s going to get claimed. Where he gets claimed, I’m not sure where that would be yet. So, he will get picked up. Where he gets picked up, I’m not sure. but he has the right person in his corner to make sure he gets another opportunity to play the game that he loves.” (0:50)

Coach Todd Bowles on Shilo Sanders’ Ejection Incident During Bills Showdown
Shilo Sanders was caught in a physical brawl during the matchup against the Buffalo Bills in preseason week 3 with tight end Zack Davidson.
After Davidson heckled him during the match, Shilo couldn’t control himself and threw a punch at his opponent during the game, that led to his ejection from the game.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles was asked about the incident in the post-game conference in which he said throwing punches like that in the league is inexcusable and that the referees will get you every time.
“You can’t throw punches in this league. That’s inexcusable. They’re going to get you every time. Gotta grow from that.” Bowles stated.
Shilo Sanders was announced to be waived off from the Bucs on Sunday, Aug. 24.
