Mike McCarthy is no longer the Dallas Cowboys head coach after both parties failed to agree on a contract extension. This has triggered a search for a new head coach to replace the outgoing McCarthy, but frankly, the Cowboys do not have the luxury of time.
With Dallas considering possible candidates, one name is consistently mentioned by fans and analysts, and that is current Colorado Buffaloes HC Deion Sanders. Most recently, Cowboys legend Dez Bryant hopped on the Sanders hype train and is backing him for the Cowboys’ head coaching job.
Former Cowboys Receiver Dez Bryant Backs Deion Sanders for Dallas Cowboys Head Coach
Bryant shared a tweet on his X account, expressing his hope that Sanders gets the Cowboys’ HC job. It’s a special endorsement because Coach Prime, like Bryant, is a Cowboys icon and one of the most important players in the history of the franchise.
However, Sanders has yet to confirm his interest in the role; rather, he’s expressed his commitment to the Buffaloes program, stating that he would only consider coaching in the NFL if it allowed him to coach both his sons, Shilo and Shedeur Sanders.
“I love Colorado, I love my Buffaloes, I love everything that we’re building,” Sanders said on “Good Morning America.” “The only way I would consider, is to coach my sons,” Sanders said. “Not son. Sons,” he emphasized.
That said, Cowboys owner/general manager Jerry Jones and Sanders have already spoken about the possibility of him taking the Dallas job, with future conversations set in place. Sanders has not confirmed these and remains insistent that he will not be leaving Colorado.
Fans React to Bryant’s Plea for Coach Prime To Be Cowboys Next HC
Surprisingly, Cowboys fans did not respond positively to Bryant’s post.
One fan pointed out how impractical Bryant’s suggestion is due to Cowboys QB Dak Prescott having a no-trade clause, a factor that would interfere with Coach Prime’s desire to coach his son QB Shedeur Sanders.
“Serious question, so what do we do with Dak? Hes got a no trade clause and prime ain’t coming without his son at QB.”

Another fan suggested that Coach Prime would bring unnecessary drama to the franchise.
“Drama surrounds him. There’s enough going on in that organization without adding that to the mix.”

Another fan rejected the idea due to Sanders yielding unsatisfactory results with the Buffaloes despite having significant advantages.
“The dude supposedly had two of the best players in college football, including the Heisman winner and he couldnt even get to the big 12 conference title game.”

One fan simply tweeted, “No lol that would be a terrible choice for head coach.”
