NFL Draft Rumors: 49ers Could Pick Travis Hunter To Suit Both Kyle Shanahan and Robert Saleh

What’s better than Mock Drafts? Mock trades that could happen on draft. Or at least that’s what ESPN thinks as they dropped an article titled: “2025 NFL Mock Draft With all Trades: Deals for Round 1 Picks.”

In this article, ESPN listed a trade that each team could make on draft day. One package involved the San Francisco 49ers trading up for perhaps the best player in the entire 2025 draft class.

ESPN Mock Trade: 49ers Move Up for Travis Hunter

One of the mock trades that ESPN listed was the 49ers moving up from 11 to four with the New England Patriots to go and get Hunter.

The trade details were this: The Patriots gave the 49ers the No. 4 overall pick, and guard Cole Strange for the No. 11 overall pick and wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk.

While I doubt this happens, the 49ers moving up for Hunter makes a lot of sense. The Niners’ cap situation is rough right now, and need to make their roster cheaper. Unloading Aiyuks contract on the Patriots would free up a lot of money and Hunter could fill holes at both cornerback and wide receiver for San Francisco.

The 49ers lost Charvarius Ward in free agency, and they have a massive need at cornerback. Hunter is the best cornerback prospect in this class and would fill the hole that Ward left, as well as play for a far less expensive contract. Not to mention, Hunter would fit defensive coordinator Robert Saleh’s scheme very well.

Kyle Shanahan, the head coach of the 49ers is also one of the most creative play callers in football, and I think he could find the perfect packages to utilize Hunter at wide receiver as well.

The only problem with this trade is that if Hunter is on the board at four overall, I don’t think the Patriots would trade back and would rather stay at No. 4 overall and pick him. However, this is a fun exercise by ESPN and something that I would love to see on draft day.
