Defensive tackle CJ West of Indiana University has proven himself as an excellent draft candidate ahead of the 2025 NFL Draft. During his last season at Indiana University, after transferring from Kent State, West produced 40 tackles with 8.5 tackles for loss and 2.0 sacks.
Indiana’s run defense improved dramatically with West’s addition, finishing 27th nationally after ranking outside the top 80 the previous year. Over his career, West compiled 150 tackles, 27 for loss, and 9.0 sacks.
As a defensive lineman, West, standing at 6’1″ and weighing 316 pounds, possesses both explosive power and a low center of gravity, which makes him a powerful player on the interior line. His NFL Combine performance enhanced his image as an athletic player when he ran a 4.95-second 40-yard dash alongside a 33-inch vertical leap.

San Francisco has a track record of creating and developing lineman prospects, while West shows the potential to match their development model. The 49ers’ defensive coaching staff would benefit from West’s versatile skill set. His defensive ability to stop runs and produce interior pressure matches the San Francisco 49ers’ defensive philosophy.
West’s addition to the team would help the 49ers limit opposition runners to 3.7 yards per carry and boost their pass defense effectiveness.
