New York Giants Eye Two-Way Potential in Travis Hunter Ahead of NFL Draft

With the No. 3 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the New York Giants may be forced to make a franchise-defining decision: Which Colorado superstar do they want to build around?

Giants Work Out Shedeur Sanders, but Travis Hunter Might Be the Real Prize

In what many are calling an “underwhelming” draft class, two names stand out, and not just for their talent. Colorado’s Travis Hunter and Shedeur Sanders aren’t just the most polarizing players in this draft; they’re two of the most talked-about prospects in the last decade.

Hunter, the former Heisman winner, electrified college football last season by playing both sides of the ball at a level fans had never seen before. The wide receiver/cornerback has made it clear he has no intention of giving up either role in the NFL.

“It’s never just playing football again,” Hunter told CBS Sports. “Because I’ve been doing it my whole life, and I love being on the football field. I feel like I could dominate on each side of the ball, so I really enjoy doing it.”

If it’s working, why change it?

Hunter has his eyes set on redefining football the way Shohei Ohtani has done in baseball. But while the ambition is bold, the NFL isn’t built for two-way dominance—at least not yet. Even his former coach, Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, dabbled in offense during his NFL career, posting his best season in 1996 with 36 receptions for 475 yards and a touchdown. After that, Sanders caught just 11 more passes over six seasons.

There’s a difference between playing both ways and dominating both ways. And for a player projected to go as high as Hunter, any team investing that kind of draft capital will expect him to back up the talk with elite-level performance.

So the question becomes: Do the Giants gamble on the generational versatility of Hunter, or do they take his teammate, Shedeur Sanders, as the quarterback of their future?

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Giants recently held a private workout with Sanders in Boulder, signaling strong interest ahead of next week’s draft.

It’s a pivotal moment for a franchise that’s desperate for direction, not just to improve the product on the field, but to win back a disillusioned fan base.

New York gave Daniel Jones a four-year, $160 million deal with $82 million guaranteed in March 2023, only to cut ties just one season later. Instead of investing in running back Saquon Barkley, the Giants let him walk… straight into the arms of the division rival Philadelphia Eagles. Barkley went on to deliver a historic campaign: 2,005 rushing yards, 15 total touchdowns, an Offensive Player of the Year award, and a Super Bowl title.

This time, the Giants can’t afford to get it wrong.

Is Sanders the guy who can reset the Giants’ trajectory? He’s accurate, elevates those around him, and has shown consistent growth, rising from Jackson State to Colorado to first-round prospect. The work ethic is there. The leadership? Also there.

But is it enough for New York to spend the No. 3 overall pick?

Or could they surprise everyone by taking Hunter at No. 3 and then making a bold move to trade back into the top 10 to draft Sanders, reuniting the Colorado stars in the NFL?
