Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker started Monday’s game in a hurry, scoring 11 points in the first 10 minutes. However, before the first quarter ended, with 2:05 remaining, Booker committed an offensive foul, following which he went straight to the locker room.
Later, it was confirmed that Booker had suffered a right groin injury and would miss the rest of the game. He finished the game with 11 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, all in under 10 minutes.
Phoenix coach Jordan Ott shared he will pass more information on his injury on Tuesday.
Moreover, during his brief time on the court, he achieved a major career milestone, reaching 17,000 career points. He became the third-youngest player ever to reach 17,000 points and 3,600 assists.
Booker is in the middle of a great season, averaging 25.0 points, 4.3 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 0.9 steals per game.
Devin Booker’s Teammates Stepped Up In All-Star’s Absence
In the absence of Devin Booker, his Suns teammates took the mantle of scoring, led by Dillon Brooks, who scored 33 points with two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
“I’m a competitor, man,” Brooks said after the win. “I don’t really like the smiling and giggling and all that. Just letting him know that I’m here and I’m still rising.
“They wanted me to keep shooting so I kept shooting. I love playing in this arena. Arena is great. Great players played in here. Magic, Kobe, Kareem, Shaq. Great players have played in here, so just to be a fan of the game, be able to play basketball for nine years and be able to be in that arena playing how I’m playing now means more to me than anything.”
Collin Gillespie contributed 28 points, four rebounds and five assists in the 125-108 Suns win. Center Mark Williams also contributed 11 points.
On the Lakers’ end, they suffered from LeBron James’ awful shooting night, as he could only convert 3 of 10 from the floor. He finished the game with just 10 points, along with zero rebounds and three assists. Meanwhile, Doncic’s 38 points weren’t enough.
With the win, the Suns ended the Lakers’ seven-game winning streak.
