“Greatest Bench Player” Comment about Victor Wembanyama Gets Refuted by Ex-NBA Pro

Victor Wembanyama has taken the NBA world by storm this season. In fact, even in his rookie season, there were not many players better than the French phenom. He won the Rookie of the Year. In his second season, he earned his first All-Star inclusion. He ended both seasons as the block champion. He has already achieved an impressive feat of going 101 consecutive games with at least one block.

As for the other stats, Wemby is equally impressive. He has a career average of 22.8 points, 10.9 rebounds and 3.7 assists. This season, he has taken things up another notch. He is averaging 24 points, 11.7 rebounds, and 3.5 assists in 20 games played so far. He missed out on a few games in December due to a calf injury. Ever since his return, he has featured in all the games. Whether it be in the starting five or from the bench.

A sports journalist recently claimed that Victor Wembanyama is the world’s greatest bench player. Not sure whether that’s true or not, Wemby’s impact is undeniable. Spurs are a different team when he is on the court. His agility and speed, even at 7’4″, are truly unbelievable. So when Wemby is called the greatest bench player, it would make sense whenever he does come off the bench. But should the Spurs have him play off the bench? Ex-NBA pro Lou Williams was extremely against the idea.

3x sixth man himself, Lou Williams said, “He got to come behind me,” if Wemby gets in that conversation. He also believes that it would be a horrific decision if the Spurs, for some reason, hypothetically started bringing Wemby off the bench. He revealed what he would do if that happened.

He said, “I’m protesting. I’m protesting. I’m going to protest the same way teams protested against me, saying, “Why is this guy coming off the bench averaging 25 points a game? Why is he coming off the bench?” So, if Wemby came off the bench and he’s in the way of me of interrupting my six man of the year runs, I’m protesting.”

“This not fair. It’s not right. He doesn’t deserve to be on the bench. We’re protesting. We’re standing outside of the arena. Um Oh, yeah. Yeah. Um I don’t know what else I I don’t know what else I would do, but can you imagine if actually in the sixman of the year confrontation? I mean, I love to do parallel universe Dreams and I’m just like that would be there’d be a lot of people that would be very upset, I think, because that would not make sense,” he continued.

Fans React to Greatest Bench Player Comment About Victor Wembanyama

Just like Lou, fans were totally against the idea.

“If I was him come off the bench rest of the year and play starter minutes, win 6 man of the year. Then go on to win every other award,” one fan proposed a fun idea.

“Jamal Crawford & Ginobili >,” one fan said about bench players.

“Ayo,” one fan reacted to Lou’s words.

“Which year He avg 25?” another wondered.
