Trae Young is in an interesting position with the Atlanta Hawks for this season. The Hawks might have found a new budding superstar in Jalen Johnson in the meantime. However, Young has yet to exercise his player option at the end of this season. It is most likely that he would, in fact, choose his player option and look for a more long-term deal elsewhere. Insider Marc Stein added fuel to the rumors around Trae Young’s future, suggesting that the Hawks are “more open” to trading Young “than they’ve ever been.”
So, where would he fit in like a perfect puzzle piece if he decides to move his talents from Atlanta? Here are five possible teams that could perhaps land the Hawks’ star.
Top Spots For Trae Young Trade
Orlando Magic
The Orlando Magic seems like a possible destination for Trae Young, especially with the potential stars such as Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner leading the way. Also, the Magic have a formidable defense and adding Young could become that offensive punch that the Magic might need. However, the Magic stand somewhere in the middle in terms of points and assists per game and at the bottom of the league in threes made. Perhaps Trae Young could help with the same from the backcourt.
Miami Heat
Every time there is a trade rumor linked to any star player, the Miami Heat finds itself in the forefront. For Trae Young as well, the Heat could be a potential destination for the Hawks star to progress further. The Heat need a real change in their roster to make a real push in the second half of the season in a relatively weaker Eastern Conference. If the Heat is allowed to use the cap space from Terry Rozier’s contract in the trade, the Miami Heat could be one of the favorite trade destinations for landing Trae Young.
Toronto Raptors
The Toronto Raptors have significantly improved defensively this season and were among the four best teams in the Eastern Conference over the first third of the season. But to gain themselves offensive prowess, especially from the back court, they might need Trae Young. Young is a player who can hurt defenses significantly and could even open up more opportunities for Brandon Ingram and Scottie Barnes to do more damage. Hence, the Raptors could be a possible destination for the Hawks’ star.
Detroit Pistons
The Detroit Pistons currently hold the best record in the Eastern Conference, improving significantly since their last few seasons. It is apparent that they will definitely make it to the playoffs this season, beating giants such as the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics in the East. Once again, as sound as the Pistons offense is, adding Trae Young could give the Pistons the break against some strong defensive teams. Perhaps, pairing Young with Cade Cunningham could be a chance for the Pistons to have a shot at the Finals.
Minnesota Timberwolves
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been in a long search to pair the right kind of guard alongside Anthony Edwards in their backcourt. Perhaps, if the Hawks agree to take Rudy Gobert in a deal, Young could be part of a nasty backcourt with Edwards and a powerful frontcourt featuring Naz Reid and Julius Randle. Such a combination could be a danger for all contending teams in the West, especially come the playoffs.
