Trae Young to Wizards Complete Trade Breakdown: All Picks and Players Involved

The first major trade before the deadline has reportedly been completed, as the Atlanta Hawks have dealt Trae Young to the Washington Wizards. Negotiations reached their final stages on Wednesday morning, with both teams agreeing on a deal.

Here’s the complete breakdown of the trade:

    Wizards received:
    – Trae Young

    Hawks received:
    – CJ McCollum

    – Corey Kispert

Young had reportedly listed the Wizards as his preferred landing spot. The Hawks, meanwhile, can now fully focus on building around rising star Jalen Johnson. Meanwhile, the Wizards get a new franchise star for the first time since trading Bradley Beal to the Phoenix Suns in 2023. No picks were involved in the deal.

Adding McCollum’s expiring contract and a coveted wing in Kispert will give the Hawks tremendous cap flexibility next offseason. They can even trade for another bona fide star to make a push in the Eastern Conference. Anthony Davis has been linked as a potential target. With Trae Young gone, the Hawks can afford to absorb Davis’ $54.2 million salary.

Trae Young was on the Hawks bench when Shams Charania reported his trade to the Wizards. He was spotted leaving for the locker room after embracing the coaching staff. Here’s the clip:

Trae Young spent seven and a half seasons in Atlanta. He led them to the playoffs three times. In his first trip to the postseason in 2021, the Hawks made the conference finals. Since then, Atlanta has managed first-round finishes at best in 2022 and 2023.

Young gets a change of scenery with a much younger roster around him, headlined by Alex Sarr, Tre Johnson and Bilal Coulibaly.
