Timothee Chalamet Reveals How LeBron James Turning Down New York Eventually Made Him a Knicks Fan

There was a time when LeBron James’ move to the New York Knicks was on the cards for a brief period. LeBron started his NBA career with the Cleveland Cavaliers. After playing with them for seven seasons, he pulled one of the most famous and hyped trades of all time, “The Decision”, as it is famously called.

The Knicks were one of the top suitors for LeBron. They reportedly made a significant pitch, which included New York’s appeal and how LeBron can further elevate his game and be a leader. The Knicks even tried to lure LeBron with a star-studded recruiting video featuring celebrities and even The Sopranos characters.

Unfortunately for the Knicks, the meeting fell through, and LeBron rejected the offer. “The Decision” took him to the Miami Heat, where he formed a superteam with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh. This left a lot of New York fans heartbroken, including a 12-year-old Timothee Chalamet, the French actor. However, he wasn’t a Knicks fan yet.

“Basically, the summer I was 12 years old or 13 years old, I booked a Disney commercial ’cause I was a child actor. So I made a couple thousand and I bought the cheapest season tickets I could find thinking LeBron was coming to the Knicks. And I thought okay I’m going to flip these for double or three times. Then he didn’t come but Amari came,” Chalamet shared.

“So I was basically able to sell them at face value and I would you know, I grew up on 43rd and 9th. So I’d run down to the garden, I would scalp to the scalpers and they were $25 a ticket. But then I would go to as many games as possible, you know, and my whole life, my grandma was a huge Knicks fan, so that’s what turned me on to them. And if you live in New York, you are a Knicks fan, you know. My grandma had a New York Giants teddy bear and a New York Jets teddy bear, but she only had a New York Knicks teddy bear,” he added.

Chalamet went on to troll the Nets fans, saying:

“If you’re a Nets fan, you should be on like a government list or something, like there’s something wrong with you.”

A young Timothee also witnessed one of the most iconic moments at the Garden live. He shared how he and one of his friends snuck down in the heat of the moment. He shared how in that pixelated footage from 2006, a kid is going crazy on the right, and that was Chalamet.

Knicks’ Mardy Collins committed a hard flagrant 2 on Nuggets star J.R. Smith. Players gathered, and there was some tension. However, when Melo confronted Collins, he ended up landing a hard punch on the Knicks star.
