During the game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday, Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo hit the floor without any contact, leading to concerns from everyone at Fiserv Forum.
The non-contact injury happened just three minutes into the first quarter. He had just made a jump pass for an assist, then, while jogging back on defense, he slipped and collapsed to the floor, clutching his right leg. Antetokounmpo stayed down until the Bucks’ medical team arrived to attend to his injury.
It was later confirmed to be a right calf strain as the team revealed that Antetokounmpo won’t return to the game. On a positive note, the Bucks star was able to walk off the court with his own power and eventually headed to the locker room.
Various interpretations are being made about what appears to be a weird injury. According to Sports Medicine Doctor Brian Sutterer, the injury doesn’t appear to be significant, as he wrote:
“This was odd..didn’t see anything significant.”

Despite his absence, the Bucks were able to take a 113-109 win against the Pistons. Kevin Porter Jr. led the scoring with 26 points and also had seven assists. He was well supported by Ryan Rollins’ 22 points and AJ Green’s 19 points. Off the bench, the Bucks were helped by Bobby Portis’ 13 points and nine rebounds, and Jericho Sims’ 15 points and 14 rebounds.
