Comparison With Shaquille O’Neal Ensues As Nikola Jokic Surpasses Lakers Legend, Kevin Durant And Carmelo Anthony in 3 Different Stats

Nikola Jokic is having another splendid season. In the 11 years he has played in the NBA, Jokic has proven his mettle with three MVP awards, one Finals MVP award, one NBA title, and seven All-Star selections. He has averaged 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 7.3 assists per game and is currently averaging his career-best numbers.

Jokic has 29.5 points, 12.3 rebounds, and 10.9 assists in 24 games for the Denver Nuggets this season. It’s safe to say that Jokic has established himself as one of the greatest ever to play the sport. He has broken multiple NBA records and recently surpassed three of the greatest players in NBA history for three different stats.

After his 36-point double-double in the Denver Nuggets’ win against the Sacramento Kings, Nikola Jokic:

    • passed Shaquille O’Neal for the second-most games ever with 30+ PTS on 85%+ FG
    • passed Kevin Durant for the third-most games ever with 30+ PTS on 90%+ TS
    • passed Carmelo Anthony for the second-most 30-point games in Nuggets franchise history

Former NBA professional Chandler Parsons made a keen assessment of Nikola Jokić’s greatness and his standing among the greatest players to have ever played in the NBA.

“We are caught up in nostalgia. We are caught up in other guy’s resumes. We are caught up in thinking that history that other guys made before him. But if you look at his game and the statistics, what he has done, the improvements he’s made, the championship. I think he is a top 10 basketball player of all time,” Chandler Parsons talked about Jokic’s greatness.

“I think Shaq is the only one better, more dominant center and he’s (Shaq) not even close to the skills that Jokic has. For just sheer dominance and what he did in the NBA, I’d still probably take Shaq number one as the best center ever but I swear I’ll probably take Jokic number two,” Chandler added.

Fans React to Nikola Jokic’s Comparisons With Shaquille O’Neal

A few fans online were certainly in agreement with Chandler Parsons, while others weren’t. However, most fans gave both Jokic and Shaq their flowers.

“Not even a warm take, far superior playmaker and shooter and IQ. SHAQ was a psychically dominant player, Jokic is skilfully dominant. 2 incredible Top 5 centers of all time. We should Appreciate both,” one fan agreed.

“Jokic has a low post game? (No. This is a skill Shaq had, he doesn’t.) high post game? (Again, no.) defense? No. So differently skilled, not “more” skilled,” one fan disagreed.

“So Orlando shaq wasn’t skilled huh,” another questioned.

“Skill rises when physicality is legislated out,” one fan claimed.

“Jokic been better than Shaq for 5 years,” another adjudged.
