“He’s Not a Top 5 Player”: Paul Pierce Urges New York Knicks To Go After Giannis Antetokounmpo Despite Jalen Brunson Karl-Anthony Towns Partnership

Giannis Antetokounmpo has been the talk of the town for weeks now. The will he, won’t he about him leaving the Bucks or making a concrete revelation has kept people wondering about how Giannis’ future would look like in the NBA.

Many teams have been brought forward who can be probable suitors for Giannis. Almost every team can benefit from Giannis’ addition, but it is more about which team can actually afford the big man and which team can Giannis benefit from. Paul Pierce recently shared his take on which team should go all in and Giannis is a “no brainer,” insisting New York Knicks to go after him.

“I think this is a no-brainer for me. Like anytime you can get a guy like Antetokounmpo who’s an MVP candidate, top five player in the league, you go for it because this is what I want to say. Like what’s the one ingredient you have to have to win a championship? You have to have a top five player, MVP, to win a championship. Think about every team that’s won it all. Who won it last year? OKC. SGA. Won a year before. Boston. Tatum was a top five player. Yeah. Before that, Steph. Jokic. Like you have to have that player. That’s the one ingredient for a championship,” Paul Pierce said on No Fouls Given and Playmaker YouTube channel at 38:18.

“And that’s why I say every year the only contenders are the guys who are in the MVP conversation. and he’s in the MVP conversation. So, if you can get that, you go for it. Like, nobody on the Knicks. I mean, you can say, ‘Yeah, Jalen Brunson, is he top five player?’ No, he’s not a top five player. He’s a great player, though. He’s an all-star. But to win a championship, you have to have a top five player in the league. It’s Look at the last 20 champions. Yeah. All of them had a top five player. Maybe one or two didn’t. Yeah. And if you can get that, you go for it,” the Celtics legend shared.

Teams In Contention To Sign Giannis Antetokounmpo

Few of the teams that have been in the trade rumors are-

    • Detroit Pistons
    • New York Knicks
    • Orlando Magic
    • Oklahoma City Thunder
    • Denver Nuggets
    • Houston Rockets
    • San Antonio Spurs
    • Los Angeles Lakers

While a union of Luka Doncic, Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James sounds most mouth watering, it is rather the most unlikely. Lakers might not have the right and enough resources without disrupting the team dynamics to bring Giannis in. Another dream link up would be between Victor Wembanyama and Giannis Antetokounmpo. As of now, no team has seriously gone after Giannis, and there are only rumors.
