Luka Doncic is currently the leading scorer in the league, averaging 33.6 points per game and is one of the serious contenders in the MVP ladder this season. However, concerns around the Slovenian star’s health is looming pretty large. As per the Hooper, Doncic is currently undergoing “around the clock” treatment to be able to play and is dealing with a left elbow injury and nagging pain in both legs.
Although he was cleared to play in the Lakers’ most recent game against the Memphis Grizzlies and was left off the official injury report, he is reportedly undergoing this treatment to manage the pain. His physical limitations have begun to impact his efficiency, with his three point shooting dipping to 32.2% as he currently lacks full power in his legs.
Doncic’s current situation is the latest chapter in a long history of recurring body injuries. Throughout late 2025, he faced multiple setbacks, including a left leg contusion in December and injuries to his finger and knee in October. His career medical history is marked by frequent ankle and calf strains, most notably a strain that hampered him during the 2022 postseason.
This history of high usage has led to mounting concerns about the cumulative physical toll on the 26-year-old as he continues to carry one of the heaviest workloads in the league.
How Are The Lakers Planning To Deal With Doncic’s Mounting Injuries?
Looking ahead, the Lakers are in a precarious position as Doncic reportedly refuses to sit out despite his injuries. The team is currently navigating a rotation due to injuries to other key players like Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, making Doncic’s presence a necessity for maintaining their 21-11 record.
With a gruelling January schedule that includes 15 games and three back-to-back sets, there is a significant concern that the team’s reliance on Doncic for short-term survival may result in a long-term cost to his career longevity. Whether the organization will eventually force him to sit out remains to be seen as the season progresses.
