Shai Gilgeous-Alexander seems to be in his prime at the moment. After having the best season of his NBA career last year, SGA has carried the same momentum into this season. Shai won MVP, the NBA championship, and Finals MVP last season. He averaged 32.7 points, and he is still in the same form.
He is averaging 32.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 6.5 assists this season, as the Oklahoma City Thunder are absolutely dominating the league. They stand first in the Western Conference with a 26-3 record and are unbeaten at home in 14 games.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has recently joined an elite NBA list, which only had the late legend, Wilt Chamberlain, on it. Shai has now gone 100 consecutive games with more than 20 points. Shai is only the second player in NBA history to achieve that feat. LeBron James commented on the feat and heaped praise on Gilgeous-Alexander.
Steve Nash mentioned how, after MVP, NBA title, and finals MVP, Shai still keeps improving. LeBron replied at 26:40:
“Absolutely. And not only, you know, we talking about the 20 point [record], you know, streak of how many so games, but doing it very efficiently, too. Shooting at a high clip. Obviously, we know his mid-range game. I think he’s even shooting his mid-range even higher than last year.”
Steve Nash Praises Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s Impressive Stats
Nash shared how Shai was shooting 50% from the mid-range last year. This year, he has gone up to 56% from the mid-range. Nash praised his efficiency. He also noted that in the last two years, Shai has shot 52% on twos outside of eight feet, just ahead of Kevin Durant.
Shai’s three-point percentage has also gone up. He’s up to 44% on five threes a game.
“I like think about Shay. You think about incredible in isolation. Um the mid-range as we talked about, incredible drive rate getting to the rim, incredible foul rate. I think in the top one, two, three last year, in the top four already this year. All the while he has committing like one and a half turnovers. And so I think for uh a player, it’s the lowest turnover rate of a player averaging 30 points for a season of all time,” Nash heaped praise.
