“LaMelo Ball Can’t Lead a Team”: Fans React As Dwyane Wade Insults Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets might have some future superstars of the league on their roster. Yet, the franchise is far from tasting any success or ending its playoff drought. The team has not won over 40 games since the 2021-22 season, when they lost in the Play-In tournament.

The Hornets have become a staple name as a lottery team in the league, despite having players such as LaMelo Ball and Miles Bridges. Charlotte’s young core, Brandon Miller and Kon Knueppel, have become the recent lottery picks to lead the way for the franchise. However, 3x NBA champion and Hall of Famer Dwyane Wade’s comments reflect the sorry state of the franchise.

On the Amazon Prime post-game analysis show “NBA Night Cap,” Wade spoke about the Hornets, saying:

“They’re my favorite professional AAU team.”

Wade’s comment came right after the Hornets registered a 120-105 win over the Orlando Magic. Many online found Wade’s comment funny, while some highlighted the fractures that may be imminently visible within the franchise. In the comments section of an Instagram post, one fan wrote:

“LaMelo can’t lead a team. I’m not even sure if he can contribute to a winning system. All he can do is get his numbers and make flashy plays.”

    Another fan added:

    “he not wrong though.”

    This fan wrote:

“Is it me, or is AAU a scam?”

    Another fan added:

“Put another “professional AAU Team against them NOT in the NBA watch what happen 😂😂😂🤡🤡🤡.”

    This fan wrote:

“I mean Melo do hoop like a young bul frying the old mfs on base.”

Currently, the Hornets sit 12th in the Eastern Conference with a 12-20 record. This time, Charlotte seems serious about a playoff appearance since the 2015-16 season, when the team was being led by Kemba Walker. Ironically, Wade’s Miami Heat were the ones to knock the Hornets out in the first round.

Kon Knueppel Exits With An Injury After The Game Against The Magic

Kon Knueppel has been one of the most productive rookies, not just for the Hornets, but in the league.

However, against the Orlando Magic on Friday, Knueppel suffered a right ankle sprain while trying to block a shot under the basket. He landed awkwardly on his ankle, resulting in him exiting the game early.

Hornets head coach Charles Lee has said that Knueppel’s X-ray results were negative. In this game, Knueppel scored 16 points and had three rebounds during his 15 minutes on the floor. He is averaging 19.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game this season.
