The LA Lakers started the season strong with Luka Doncic and Austin Reaves in the best of form. This was the first season in LeBron James’ career where he missed the first game. Not many believed the Lakers would actually be in a strong position come the first few games. However, their form dipped drastically, and they lost momentum in the middle.
Despite a break in momentum, the Lakers luckily do not find themselves in a very problematic situation. LeBron, despite his injury, is averaging 20.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 6.5 assists. Austin Reaves just got sidelined with an injury and is set to miss the next few weeks. He is averaging a career-high 26.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in 23 games.
Luka Doncic has been the star for the Lakers this season. He has pretty much carried the team, averaging 33.6 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 8.7 assists in 25 games. The Lakers stand fifth in the Western Conference with a 21-11 record.
Apart from their decent overall form, the Lakers have also recently broken an NBA record. However, the record might not be something to be proud of. In fact, this might be a sign of worry for JJ Redick’s team.
“The Lakers are the most bizarre team in the NBA. Despite starting the year 20-11, they have a NEGATIVE point differential. Being outscored in a season where you’ve won 65% of your games is objectively hilarious,” an Instagram post read.
“421 NBA teams have gone 20-11 or better in their first 31 games over the past 30 seasons. This season’s 20-11 Lakers are the ONLY team on that list to post a negative net rating (-0.6) in those 31 games,” the Instagram post added.

Fans were on the fence for the Lakers’ success after learning about their unique but bizarre record.
“Lakers lose big and win small, not the markers of a championship caliber team…,” one fan commented.
“11-0 in clutch games will do that,” another said.

“When they were 14-4 I said to my mates that they had already peaked this season. This team is as shallow as they come and has zero chance of beating any other West top 5/6 teams,” another explained.
