The Trae Young trade has been the talk of the town, as fans and analysts are divided about the decision and the Atlanta Hawks’ prospects for a championship. Amid the chatter, Paul Pierce has come clean with his stance on the matter and stated that the move was bound to spell doom for the team.
Talking on the No Fouls Given podcast, Pierce talked about the Trae Young trade and called out the “mid franchise” for making wrong decisions. The former Boston Celtics legend said:
“I’m not shocked what they did. As a mid franchise, a franchise that’s not respected as an organization because of ownership, they never do anything that surprises me. For them to give up a 4x All Star, a guy who’s an elite PG in the league and got them to the eastern conference, and not get a draft pick out of it?”
The 2008 NBA champion even put a bet against the Hawks winning a title “in his lifetime.” He added:
“That tells me you wanted him out of your state. Organizations like this will never be elite. Organization like this will never win a championship in my lifetime. If they do I will crawl from LA to New York on my knees. They’ll be a middling franchise for eternity”
Earlier, there were reports that the Hawks were stuck with the deal due to “draft compensation” negotiations. However, eventually, the team management decided to send the elite guard to Washington without any draft capital. That move has raised many questions from fans and analysts.
“You are never better without your superstar,” Gilbert Arenas explains why the Trae Young trade is terrible for the Hawks
Taking to his YouTube channel, The Gilbert Arenas Show, the former Washington Wizards All-Star player expressed his feelings on the Trae Young trade. While he expressed joy for his former team getting an elite point guard and giving “nothing in return,” he berated the Hawks for letting “the reporters trick you out of spot.”
While highlighting Ice Trae’s injury woes, Arenas said:
“He got out of rhythm, came back, played five games, y’ll lost those five games, has nothing to do with him. Y’ll trying to figure out how the old group play6 s with the new group, that’s what ends up happening… Doesn’t mean you are better without him; you’re never better without your superstar.”
Fans and analysts have criticized the trade deal, as the Hawks look to regroup for the season. As per the latest reports, the team management is planning to pursue Anthony Davis with the Mavericks in search of a new franchise face.
