Back when Dylan Harper’s dad Ron played in the NBA, television was the medium that dominated fans’ consumption of basketball. Decades after Ron Harper’s heyday, more platforms to view the sport have emerged. This setup, however, has drawn the ire of the five-time NBA champion.
On Friday, Ron tuned in to watch Dylan and the San Antonio Spurs take on the Indiana Pacers. As he indicated on his X account, Ron was interested in watching other games on the NBA’s 10-game slate that night. The problem was the games that the elder Harper wanted to catch were spread across different platforms. He tweeted:
All of this streaming sports is out of control I was watching the @spurs game and wanted to watch the @nyknicks. I couldn’t. I wanted to watch the @BrooklynNets. i couldn’t ant then @nuggets I couldn’t cause they’re on different streaming channels I call greedy B.S!!!!

Ron Harper is referring to the 11-year media deal that the NBA signed last year with multiple networks and streaming platforms. As per the deal, NBA games will be presented by the Walt Disney Company (via ABC/ESPN), NBCUniversal (via NBC/Peacock), and Amazon (via Prime Video).
Reportedly, the NBA is set to make a total of $76 billion from this deal. Whether viewers love it or not, this setup is here to stay for the next decade.
As such, the parents of NBA players like Dylan Harper will have to get used to toggling different platforms if they wish to follow their children’s career while also keeping up-to-date with the happenings elsewhere in the league.
Ron Harper Comes To Defense Of Son Dylan Harper After Major Call in Spurs-Knicks Game
During the Spurs’ matchup against the New York Knicks this past Wednesday, Dylan Harper got called for a flagrant foul when he closed out on a Jalen Brunson three. One netizen shared a slow motion clip of this play and decried the referee’s call, saying that “Adam Silver has ruined basketball.”
Unsurprisingly, Ron Harper tweeted a similar sentiment:
“Sorry but the game is crazy with bad officiating”
Be that as it may, Dylan and Ron must have been thrilled when the Spurs ended up winning this high-scoring affair on New Year’s Eve. By pulling off the 134-132 victory, San Antonio avenged their loss to the Knicks in the finals of the Emirates NBA Cup.
