The Warriors are in a weird spot at the moment. Stephen Curry’s side has failed to perform at the level that everyone has seen over the years. They have not been able to utilize the momentum whenever they have gotten good starts. Additionally, the over-reliance on Curry is pretty evident.
Curry is averaging 28.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists in 23 games this season. He was absent for a while due to injury, and since then, the Warriors have had a hot-and-cold run, beating some of the in-form teams and losing to some of the weaker sides. Their season has been swinging around the .500 mark.
Head coach Steve Kerr recently said that the Golden State Warriors are a “fading dynasty.”
“The most important thing for me is for guys to recognize that there’s beauty in the struggle…We are no longer the ’17 Warriors dominating the league. We are a fading dynasty,” Kerr said.
Reacting to the statement, Draymond Green remarked:
“I know a lot was made this week about Steve’s comment about us being a fading dynasty. And you know, there could be a lot of emotions when you read a statement like that or hear a statement like that. And for me, I try to process them. And when you get down to it, the reality of it is, it’s true. Dynasties don’t last forever. What you do is you try to prolong them as long as you can.”
“You try to build on them as much as you can. But it’s true. Now, he didn’t say we’re a dynasty that fade it. He said we are a fading dynasty. Guess what? Steph Curry’s in year 17. I’m in year 14. Klay Thompson, who’s gone, would be in year 15,” he continued.
“We’ve been at it for a while. So, when he say we’re a fading dynasty, everyone knows that he’s not throwing salt. He’s not putting the team down. It’s true. But it’s our job as the ones inside the dynasty to try to prolong it as long as we’re given the opportunity. And that’s where we are. So, I didn’t quite understand everybody making such a big deal about it,” Green concluded.
Draymond also cleared the air on his altercation with Steve Kerr, sharing that he needed to walk off and not create a scene. Green concluded that the Warriors are connected as ever.
A Look at Stephen Curry and Warriors’ Underwhelming Season
Fans have blamed Steve Kerr’s management this season, and he very well knows that he has to take accountability. There has also been blame put on the rest of the bench.
Draymond Green and Jimmy Butler have not been at their best. Draymond hasn’t gone down statistically from his career averages, but the 35-year-old forward has definitely not been at the top of his game. Butler’s second season has not been very successful individually.
