Dillon Brooks Gives Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Taste of His Own Medicine With Cryptic Jab as Thunder Crumble Again

Dillon Brooks seemingly took a page out of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s book as he taunted the OKC Thunder star after the Phoenix Suns handed the Thunder its sixth loss of the season on Sunday, defeating the reigning champions 108-105.

On Monday, Brooks taunted Gilgeous-Alexander on Instagram. He shared pictures from the game, including a snap of a difficult shot over the reigning MVP and wrote a telling caption:

“Same area code but when my number is called it’s long distance.”

While Dillon Brooks’ caption seems harmless on the surface, it could be a shot at the reigning MVP. The captions on all of Gilgeous-Alexander’s social media posts are presented like poems or rhymes, same as the Suns guard’s post from Sunday, which highlights Phoenix’s win against OKC.

Brooks was key in the win, recording 22 points and four rebounds, shooting 8-for-17. Devin Booker was also stellar, finishing with 24 points, six rebounds and nine assists, shooting 5-for-11.

Meanwhile, Gilgeous-Alexander had a tough night by his standards, scoring 25 points, shooting 8-for-22. He is averaging 31.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists per game, shooting 55.4%.

Suns owner firmly shuts down Dillon Brooks trade talks

Dillon Brooks has come to life with the Phoenix Suns. The veteran forward is in his ninth NBA season and is averaging a career-high in points with 21.4 per game. He is also recording 3.1 rebounds and has been solid on the defensive end. Brooks’ play has led to him being the subject of several trade rumors.

On Monday, former NBA All-Star DeMarcus Cousins also chimed in, suggesting that the LA Lakers should trade for Brooks. Phoenix Suns owner Matt Ishbia was quick to shut down the discussion taking a firm stance on X.

“Don’t bother calling… Suns aren’t interested,” Ishbia said. “Dillon’s not going anywhere.”

Dillon Brooks has quickly ingratiated himself in the Suns’ organization with his stellar play on both ends of the floor. Thanks to him, Phoenix finds itself in a better position, months after losing All-Stars Bradley Beal and Kevin Durant.

The team is holding seventh place in a tightly contested West with a 21-15 record. They are trailing the OKC Thunder (30-7) in first by eight-and-a-half games. The Suns are beginning to find their footing, winning seven out of their last 10 games.

The team will return to the court on Wednesday to face the Memphis Grizzlies.
