Cleveland Cavaliers Urged To Stay Put in Hotel Amid Potential Protests After Woman Gets Shot by Federal Agent: Report

The Cleveland Cavaliers are in Minneapolis for a showdown against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday. Donovan Mitchell and Co. look to cap off a two-game road trip with a win against the surging home team. The Cavs, though, aren’t doing any sightseeing while in the Twin Cities.

NBA insider Marc J. Spears tweeted on Wednesday the latest in the Cavaliers’ situation in the city:

“The Cleveland Cavaliers’ security told their players and employees after practice this afternoon in Minneapolis to stay put in the team hotel tonight due to potential protests, sources told @andscape.”

The security precaution came after the Minnesota Star Tribune reported on Wednesday that a woman was allegedly killed by an ICE agent. Renee Good, a 37-year-old mother, was a legal observer monitoring the protesters’ stand against ICE agents.

As soon as the report of her shooting came out, thousands gathered around the streets in Minneapolis to condemn the alleged killing.

The Cleveland Cavaliers are likely staying at a hotel near the Target Center, the Timberwolves’ home arena, for convenience. With tensions between protesters and the authorities escalating, the players have been asked to stay inside until game time on Thursday night.

Cleveland Cavaliers and Minnesota Timberwolves start home-and-away series on Wednesday

The Cleveland Cavaliers and the Minnesota Timberwolves will meet just twice this season, a usual setup for teams from different conferences. Cleveland, an Eastern Conference powerhouse, will get its first crack at the home team on Wednesday.

The Cavaliers will take on the Timberwolves with multiple key players on the injured list. Dean Wade (knee) and Max Strus (foot) are out. Larry Nance Jr. (calf) is questionable, while Jaylon Tyson (illness) is probable.

The Timberwolves are 13-6 at Target Center, making them one of the best home teams in the NBA. Cleveland, 8-8 on the road, will have a tall task in trying to pull off an upset, particularly with a hobbled roster.

Regardless of the outcome, the Cleveland Cavaliers will get another shot at the Timberwolves on Saturday in Ohio.

The home-and-away series will feature two of the best and most explosive shooting guards in the NBA – Anthony Edwards and Donovan Mitchell. Cleveland’s superstar loves playing against the T-Wolves. He is averaging 28.0 points, 6.6 assists and 5.0 rebounds in his last five games against them.

Edwards also relishes going up against the Cleveland Cavaliers. He has put up 30.7 ppg, 5.2 rpg and 3.3 apg in his last 10 games against the Cavs.

Ant-Man and Spida will headline the two-game series between the Timberwolves and the Cavaliers.
