Chris Paul has often been considered to be one of the best players in NBA history. CP3, as he is popularly known, is also cited as one of the best players to never win an NBA championship. More than anything else, he has been dubbed one of the greatest players to play for the Clippers. Many believe Paul was the one to elevate the Clippers on the NBA map.
So naturally, it was shocking for the NBA world and Paul himself when the Clippers decided to give up on him after signing him for a 1-year, $3.6 million contract. On Dec. 3, the Clippers revealed that they will part ways with Chris Paul. The team was still on its way back after a loss, and nobody on the team knew. Paul took to his Instagram and wrote, “Just found out I’m sent home.”
Ty Lue reportedly hadn’t talked to CP3 for weeks, and their rift was one of the major reasons behind the decision. Now, some more inside news is getting unraveled.
“The Chris Paul reunion in Los Angeles was more than simply doomed from nearly the beginning; it might also serve as foreshadowing of a future for the Clippers even more challenging than their present,” Ramona Shelburne reported.
“There was a wild divergence in expectations of what Paul’s role on the team would be when he signed as a free agent on a one-year, $3.6 million contract this summer, multiple sources said. The team envisioned Paul’s role as an end-of-the-bench, veteran leader who needed little maintenance,” sources said.

However, all hell broke loose when tensions between Chris Paul and coach Jeff Van Gundy increased on a team flight to Miami. Van Gundy was reportedly upset after Paul publicly questioned how the staff used Kawhi Leonard’s limited minutes in a loss to Dallas. Paul was accused of changing defensive coverage without approval. He denied that and claimed that he only suggested an adjustment.

Fans online supported Chris Paul and dissed the Clippers.
“So they falsely accused him of something, he proved them wrong and they got salty so they let him go? Poverty franchise,” one fan defended CP3.
“‘Team envisioned a veteran leader’ *gets fired for doing that*,” one fan called out Clippers.
“So he gets released for doing when he was supposed to do? Got it,” another commented,
“Point God needs his flowers for sure, if he suggested something, it’s probably a brilliant take. Thats why Spurs and CP3 went well, the voice of Chris Paul always shows results,” one fan explained.
“I wish nothing but the worst for this franchise,” another expressed his dissatisfaction.
