Breaking Down the Slate: What to Look for in 2025

The season opener against VMI is more than just a game; it’s an opportunity to make a statement. With a perfect 10-0 record against the Keydets, Navy aims to continue its dominance and set a positive tone for the year. The following week, they host UAB, a team they convincingly defeated 41-18 in their last encounter, showcasing their offensive capabilities.

A trip to Tulsa marks the first road challenge, testing the Midshipmen’s resilience away from home. Returning to Annapolis, they will welcome Rice before the highly anticipated rivalry clash against Air Force. This contest is crucial, not only for bragging rights but also for possession of the coveted Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy.

The mid-season features a mix of home and away games, including a trip to Temple and a home matchup against Florida Atlantic. These games will be pivotal in shaping their momentum and seeding within the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

November presents a particularly demanding stretch, with consecutive road games against North Texas and a formidable Notre Dame team. The latter, a national contender, will be a significant test of the Navy’s mettle. The regular season concludes with a Thanksgiving Day game at Memphis and the traditional Army-Navy game in Baltimore, a hard-fought fixture steeped in history.

A key element fueling optimism for the Navy’s prospects is the return of its core offensive players. Quarterback Blake Horvath, the offensive linchpin, is back after a stellar season where he amassed over 1,200 yards both through the air and on the ground, contributing to an impressive 30 total touchdowns.

Horvath is complemented by fullback Alex Tecza and slotback Eli Heidenreich. Tecza contributed 797 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns, while Heidenreich added 671 receiving yards, 444 rushing yards, and nine touchdowns, forming a dangerous offensive trio capable of challenging any defense.

While the offensive line has experienced the departure of some starters, there are promising replacements ready to step in, ensuring continuity and protection for the backfield.

Defensively, the Midshipmen face the task of integrating new talent following the departure of key starters such as linebackers Colin Ramos and Kyle Jacob and safety Rayuan Lane III. Nevertheless, with returning linemen and emerging talent in the secondary, the defense aims to uphold the Navy’s tradition of toughness and discipline.
