“We Had to Sell Off a Lot of Assets”: When Denny Hamlin Expressed His Gratitude to His Parents for Helping Him Achieve His Dream

Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin was featured in an interview with NBC Sports in 2019. During the interaction, Hamlin opened up about his parents being there for him and funding his early racing days to help him become a NASCAR driver.

In a conversation with Kyle Petty, Hamlin recalled his early financial struggles and credited his parents for supporting him in his pursuit. The #11 Toyota Camry XSE driver also highlighted that his parents sold their assets for race tires and fuel.

Further in the conversation, Denny Hamlin expressed his gratitude and stated:

“It’s really a combination between my two parents. I would say that, you know, my dad was the tough side, and my mom was the little bit of the softer side, but they both made a lot of struggles and sacrifices to keep funding my racing. I mean, we had to sell off a lot of assets to buy race tires and race fuel and stuff like that.”

Denny Hamlin made his first appearance in the Cup Series with Joe Gibbs Racing in 2005. He initially drove the #11 Chevy for the team before the organization switched to Toyota in 2008. Hamlin amassed 60 wins and 48 pole positions in his career.
