The 2025 NFL Combine has been full of surprises, and Georgia Bulldogs edge rusher Mykel Williams added to the buzz. A projected first-round pick, Williams addressed the media with a big smile, especially when discussing his meeting with the Dallas Cowboys. However, his decision to skip on-field workouts at the combine has left teams with more questions than answers.

Mykel Williams Discusses Cowboys Meeting with Media and Sits Out Workouts
Williams entered the 2024 college season as a potential top-five pick, but injuries derailed his campaign. Speaking at the NFL Combine, he revealed he played through the year at only 60% health due to a lingering ankle issue.
The injury, which cost him multiple games and worsened in the Sugar Bowl, is the reason why he will not participate in drills this week. Despite concerns over his health, Williams’ draft stock still remains high.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport still considers him “a likely top-10 pick,” though others see him slipping to the mid-to-late first round. The Cowboys, however, appear interested. When asked about his meeting with the team, Williams flashed a big grin and said, “I did. I loved that meeting.”

Skipping combine workouts means teams will have to wait until Georgia’s Pro Day to see Williams in action. The exact date hasn’t been set, but it is expected to take place in mid-to-late March.
Given his limited college production — only 14 career sacks and 85 quarterback pressures — teams will want to see more proof of his athleticism and ability to stay on the field.
ESPN’s Mel Kiper Jr. believes Williams has the most to prove in this draft class. Initially seen as a potential No. 1 pick, his injury-ridden season led to a drop in stock. Kiper notes that a strong showing at the combine could have solidified his standing, but now all eyes will be on his Pro Day performance.
Other prospects like Jack Sawyer, Princely Umanmielen, and Shemar Stewart have been more productive and consistently available. If Williams’ Pro Day goes well and his medical reports check out, he could still secure a high draft selection. Otherwise, he might slide further down the board than expected.

For now, his meeting with the Cowboys is one of the few things to spark excitement at the combine. Whether Dallas is seriously considering him remains to be seen, but Williams’ big smile suggests the interest was mutual.
