Former FSU WR Mycah Pittman Transfers to Utah

After entering the transfer portal for the second time in his college football career, Mycah Pittman will suit up for the Utah Utes in 2023.

After spending one season in Tallahassee, former FSU and Oregon wide receiver Mycah Pittman is back on the move. Pittman announced his commitment to the Utah Utes ahead of the 2023 college football season.

An experienced playmaker with a versatile skill set, Pittman was a heavily targeted wide receiver once he entered his name into the college football transfer portal. Tweeting that he was “blessed to receive all these offers, imma put the phone down and enjoy the rest of my day,” he clearly picked up when Utah called as he committed to the Utes on Sunday.

Pittman offers Utah a playmaker who can impact the game in multiple facets. In addition to his ability as a pass catcher, the former Oregon and FSU wide receiver has experience returning punts, has taken carries out of the backfield, and has further added value in the ground game as a ruthless blocker who plays with strength and exceptional effort.

Of course, Utah hasn’t plucked Pittman out of the portal purely to pick up his punt return prowess. While he doesn’t possess gaudy career statistics, the 5’11”, 203-pound wide receiver has some alluring attributes as a pass catcher. During his college career, he has routinely showcased contested catch capability with ball-tracking skills and physicality at the point.

Although he’s not a true burner, Pittman has enough juice to be a threat with the ball in his hands, buoyed by some athletic tendencies that go beyond pure speed. He’s got the hops to get up and hurdle a man, while his athleticism extends to incredible body control to reel in diving and highlight-reel catches.

A four-star recruit in the 2019 class, Pittman was extremely productive for Calabasas High School. Arriving in Oregon, he contributed immediately with two touchdowns and 227 yards as a target for then-Ducks quarterback Justin Herbert. Over the following two seasons in Eugene, however, he only reeled in 20 receptions for 320 yards and zero touchdowns.

His transfer to FSU gave Pittman his first full season of action, with seven starts in 13 games. It was his most productive season to date, snagging 32 catches for 330 yards and three touchdowns. An injury thwarted his spring campaign for the Seminoles, and now he’ll line up for a third team in three years after transferring to Utah for the 2023 campaign.
