Dante Moore vs. Austin Novosad: Stats Under the Microscope As Dan Lanning Stokes Oregon QB Battle

Dan Lanning has had an embarrassment of riches at the quarterback spot during his time as the Oregon Ducks head coach. When you know you’re going to get consistently high-level quarterback play out of guys like Bo Nix and Dillon Gabriel, that can take the stress off a coach in a big way.

However, this season there are some question marks at the quarterback spot for the Ducks, and at the end of spring ball, Dan Lanning still has not made an official decision on who will be the quarterback for Oregon next fall in the battle between Dante Moore and Austin Novosad.

Dante Moore vs. Austin Novosad Quarterback Battle Still Ongoing

Before spring ball, many college football fans and analysts kind of assumed that Moore was going to be the starter for the Ducks next season. However, it seems like Lanning really likes Novosad as he gave the young quarterback some high praise in a recent press conference.

Lanning was asked about Novosad’s development in his time at Oregon and responded by saying, “He’s a guy that can make every throw, he’s a good decsion maker, and really a leader of our team.”

Novosad was a highly ranked four-star recruit out of high school and, according to 247Sports, was a top 200 player in the 2023 recruiting class. He’s had the chance to sit and learn behind some elite QBs like Dillon Gabriel and Bo Nix, which probably has given him a leg up in Oregon’s offensive system.

Moore was also a member of the 2023 recruiting class, committing to UCLA as a five-star and 247Sports’ number four player in the entire country. Moore struggled in his first season at UCLA but also got the chance to sit behind Gabriel and learn last season after transferring to the Ducks.
