Mock Draft Sees Travis Hunter, Shedeur Sanders Land in Much-Needed Spots

With the 2025 NFL Draft less than a month away, you can see a clearer rationale. Los Angeles Times columnist Sam Farmer envisions the former Buffaloes as game changers that will immediately affect their new team’s fortunes for the positive.

In his latest mock draft, the columnist sees Hunter making his way to the New York Giants. On the other hand, Sanders will become the Las Vegas Raiders quarterback of the future.

The two All-Americans will play their rookie seasons, east and west of Boulder, respectfully. During Farmer’s descriptions, he lays out the rationale for both.

“This two-way phenom could help the Giants on either side of the ball. Now, if they only had a quarterback on the rise.”

Correctly, Farmer assesses the nightmare known as the Giants’ quarterback room from a youth standpoint. Now, Jameis Winston and Russell Wison actually bring 23 combined years of experience to the field. Unfortunately, they also will unleash a torrent of inconsistency that will lose games in the most frustrating ways.

Now, Farmer’s assertions slide off the beam when he mentions Hunter as a two-way phenomenon. Under no metric or belief should Hunter see extensive time at wide receiver. If he does, then he needs to limit those cornerback snaps. The NFL game isn’t conducive to playing constant snaps on both sides.

Hunter, if the prediction pans out, will enter a Giants locker room that remains an enigma wrapped in a mystery. The team, from a talent standpoint, does not look awful. A couple of years ago, they made the playoffs with Daniel Jones.

The defense rolls out a dominant lineman in Dexter Lawrence and twitchy pass rushers in Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns. Offensively, Malik Nabers and WanDale Robinson anchor a competent receiver group. The cupboard isn’t bare for the Giants, but a strong draft with Hunter could set in motion a positive trend for that franchise.

Farmer slots Sanders as the sick pick, heading to the Las Vegas Raiders. For over two decades, the Raiders’ perennial fight against sustained prosperity drags on. Through atrocious drafting, insipid extensions, and organizational malpractice, a once-proud team limps along.

Now, if Farmer gets this one right, the younger Sanders will helm a team that needs it. In hiring Pete Carroll, team owner Mark Davis, and general manager John Spytek wanted stability at the top. In addition, as a delegator, Carroll will not try to dictate personnel, like Jon Gruden continued to do. The team spent too much money to keep Derek Carr.

Although the team traded for Geno Smith, Sanders could sit as an apprentice for a year. Additionally, Smith, a widely respected veteran, could mentor the first-round draft pick as he begins his ascension. The Raiders need something. Playing in a palatial stadium in front of an apathetic crowd doesn’t fit what management anticipates.

Potentially, the Giants and Raiders could enjoy a measure of good fortune with their draft picks. Neither will melt from the heat of the media attention or the heavy weight of expectations. In the last twenty years, the New York Giants have claimed two Super Bowls and the highest of highs.

Lately, the team has fallen on hard times and terrible management. Meanwhile, the Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders sit mired in a morass of failure, disappointment of dashed hopes. Hunter and Sanders hold the keys to separate franchises beginning the road back to relevance.
