Michigan appointed Sherrone Moore as head coach last season, and he and the team hit a couple of bumps with some tough losses over the season. However, they managed to finish the season with an 8-5 record and a bowl game win over Alabama. Michigan is the most winningest program in college football history, and its last championship came in 2023.
Sherrone Moore is determined to recapture the winning form and bring the title back to Michigan, but he has a couple of challenges to overcome in order to achieve that. The number one obstacle he needs to overcome is injuries to key players.

Mikey Keene’s Recovery Brings Clarity to Michigan’s QB Battle Ahead of 2025 Season
Sherrone Moore planned changes to the heart of Michigan’s offense ahead of the new season, and quarterbacks were brought in — Fresno State transfer Mikey Keene and five-star Bryce Underwood, the consensus No. 1 overall ranked high school football player in the nation in the 2025 college football recruiting class.
Keene had looked set to be the signal-caller next season, but he has been sidelined throughout the spring game, leaving just Underwood and Warren Davis taking the snaps, a situation that has Michigan fans concerned.
But it appears that fans can breathe easy as an Insider has dropped an update on Keene’s health.
Speaking on YouTube about Keene’s status, James Yoder said,
“So what we know now is that he was getting close to the end of spring practice, didn’t want to expose him to shoulder pads and helmets and all that good stuff. But is back to throwing here in just informal workouts. Potential to do some 7-on-7 and throwing with wide receivers, tight ends, and running backs at Schembechler Hall currently, and obviously going through the month of May, June into July, and fall camp at the end of July.”

While Underwood is the number one high school football player, and many expect him to be QB1, he is fresh, raw, and lacks experience, a trait that Keene has in abundance. He has thrown for 8,254 yards in his career with 65 passing TDs and 28 interceptions. Although Moore hinted that the battle will spill into Fall camp.
