The Florida State Seminoles have officially named their starting quarterback for the 2025 season. It will be none other than transfer quarterback Thomas Castellanos.
Mike Norvell Says Thomas Castellanos Will Be One of the Nation’s Best Quarterbacks
Norvell believes Castellanos will be one of the country’s “best” quarterbacks. The Miami native made the move to Florida State after spending the last two seasons at Boston College.
His 2023 season is what Seminoles fans should pay attention to. En route to guiding the Eagles to a bowl game, he threw for 2,248 yards while also rushing for 1,114 yards.
He recorded a total of 28 touchdowns that season, too. In 2024, he reduced his interceptions, going from throwing 14 in 2023 to just five.
Veteran quarterbacks are good to have in today’s era of college football, and the Seminoles could greatly benefit from the one that they have.
Florida State Looks to Keep Pace with ACC Contenders
After nearly going undefeated two years ago, Norvell and Co. had a surprisingly rough season. They won just two games and finished last in the conference.
But now that they have added some veteran players in the transfer portal, perhaps they can get back to their winning ways.
To do that, they will have to contend with Clemson, SMU, Miami, North Carolina, and Louisville. Clemson won the ACC and made it to the College Football Playoff.
SMU faced Clemson in the conference title game after winning 10+ games in the regular season. Miami won 10 games and found a way to add veteran quarterback Carson Beck in the transfer portal.
Of course, North Carolina hired legendary head coach Bill Belichick this offseason. This is going to be one of the toughest conferences in the country this season.

Luckily for the Seminoles and their fan base, they have a lot of experience on the roster, as opposed to a year ago. It will be up to Norvell to answer the bell and bring the school back into both conference title and national title contention in 2025 and beyond.
